To pitch the ball you first have to snap the ball. After that’s taken care of there are several ways to pitch the ball depending on the players and actions involved.
Pitching from the Quarterback
Right-click on the quarterback and choose “Pitch Ball” from “Ball > Pitch” in his action menu:
Then right-click on the player to whom you want to pitch and choose “Receive Pitch” from his “Ball > Pitch” menu:
Playbook Wizard will draw the playart:
and you can immediately animate the play to see the pitch in action.
Pitching from the Runner
Instead of starting with the quarterback we can start with the player receiving the pitch. As long as the ball has been snapped and has yet to be pitched, a potential runner (any player who is behind the ball and doesn’t currently have the ball) will have the “Receive Pitch” option in their “Ball > Pitch” menu:
So, you can skip the first step of telling the player with the ball to pitch it and just tell the runner to receive the pitch.
Pitching from the Route Menu
As long as the ball has been snapped all potential runners will also have the option to receive a pitch directly from their “End Route” menu:
Choosing “Default” from this menu will end the route with a run arrow but choosing “End Receive Pitch” will draw the route and then automatically add the pitch from the quarterback’s endpoint:
Pitching from Waypoints
You’re not limited to pitching from the endpoints of routes either – you can also pitch between waypoints as well:
Just choose “Pitch Ball” from the “Ball” menu of the origin waypoint and “Receive Pitch” at the destination waypoint.
Pitching Restrictions
There are two main restrictions when it comes to pitching. First, the ball must be snapped before a pitch can occur. Second, the player receiving the ball must be behind the player pitching the ball. If either of these conditions is not met a runner won’t have the option to receive a pitch show up in their “Ball” action menu.
