Waypoint is a generic term used to describe the places on a player’s motion or route where the right-click action menu can be triggered. Here’s a simple player motion and route:
There are four waypoints in this route: the start point (player shape), the point where the motion ends (the cursor is hovering over this waypoint), the first cut where the route changes direction, and the endpoint arrow shape.
Right-clicking on any of these waypoints will bring up the action menu with actions that are appropriate for that waypoint:
Some menu options like “Player” are available from every waypoint while others like the “Route > Point” menu:
are only available at certain types of waypoints.
When you’re drawing routes or motion take care to place waypoints where you want actions to happen. If you want a player to receive a pass at a certain spot on the field make sure you place a waypoint at that spot in their route. Same for receiving the snap or a pitch or changing player run speed. If there’s no waypoint present there’s no way to tell the play designer what you want the player to do.
